Understanding God’s Will

Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. Ephesians 5:17. KJV

The Will of God simply means what God wants and strongly desires for your life. Understanding and doing God’s Will keeps you in sync with God at all times. You can rest assured that the Holy Spirit will be always committed to your success when you prioritize God’s Will. Jesus came to the earth, not to carry out His personal agenda, but to do God’s Will. His public and private ministries were characterized by the influence of the Holy Spirit because His life was an expression of the Father’s Will. In John 6:38 Jesus said, ‘ For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of Him that sent me.’ Jesus lived His life on earth for the satisfaction of the Father and not for His own desire! The contemporary English version renders it beautifully, ‘I didn’t come from heaven to do what I want! I came to do what the Father wants me to do.

Jesus is our example, and we are admonished in the Scriptures to follow in His steps. The Apostle Paul speaking by the Spirit in Ephesians 5:1, tells us to be imitators of Christ. If He lived out the Father’s Will, we also must be willing to live as He did. It is an act of wisdom to always opt for God’s Will. Your successes, achievements, and prosperity in life are finely knitted to your heavenly Father’s Will.
On the contrary, it is sheer foolishness to ignore the Will of God. Ephesians 5:17 says, ‘ Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is.’ As a believer, you are built by wisdom and established by understanding. Your understanding of God’s Will in any aspect of your life is what guarantees fruitfulness in that area.

The question then is, how can you know the Will of God? You get to know what God wants through His Word. Jesus read the Law, and understood what was written concerning Him: ‘Then said I, Lo, I come (in the volume of the book it is written of me,) to do thy will, O God.’ Hebrews 10:7 KJV. You can not understand His Will unless you habitually study His Word. The Word of God is the Will of the Father for His beloved Children.
As you give yourself to the Word, you will discover that His will is superior to anything you could ever conceive in your mind. Take out quality time to meditate on God’s Word and you will be amazed how lofty His plans for you are. God is interested in every detail of your life. His Will covers your finances, health, relationships, security, prosperity, etc. It is His will for you to prosper and be in health. So if you are sick or diseased in your body, you have the authority in the name of Jesus to reject that sickness. Psalm 35:27 says He also delights in the prosperity of His Children. That’s why you should have zero tolerance for lack and poverty.

Let the Word of God become your delight so that the Holy Spirit can flood your heart with the knowledge of His Will. The more you increase in the Word, the more the Holy Spirit enables you to live by His Will. It is far better and profitable to live out God’s Will than to run your life based on the opinions and wisdom of men. In Christ we were recreated to live by the Word and nothing else. Go for the Word and assuredly you will be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, ever productive and always flourishing!

PRAYER: Dear Lord I thank You for your good and perfect Will for my life. I receive grace to daily feed on Your Word so that my life will be an expression of your Will at all times, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
