For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable for all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come. 1 Timothy 4:8
The human mind is profit oriented. Who does business without thinking of profits? Who wants to marry a person perceived as a liability? Why spend so much money on education if not for the value it adds to lives?
It is interesting to know that being godly is of great profitability too. The benefits of godliness transcends life on earth. Aside from the blessings you enjoy in this life by virtue of being godly, your heavenly account is credited with great treasures. The awareness that the verse above births in you ought to encourage you to stand out and live for God as a true ambassador of Christ.
As good as most earthly pursuits and adventures, they are still void of eternal values. But in Christ, your life is fully enriched and massively furnished with the eternal graces and blessings of God.
2 Peter 1:3 says, “His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue.” The God-kind of life that you received in Christ gives you the ability to live your life in complete reverence to God. Because you are of God, you have the nature of righteousness, coupled with the ability to live a godly life.
Never succumb to the pressure of living a double standard life. Be all out for Christ. Place the highest premium on your walk with God. Nothing is as rewarding as your union with Christ. Jesus said in Matthew 16:26, “For what profit is it to a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul? Or what will a man give in exchange for his soul?”
Godliness is profitable for all things, in ministry, marriage, business, career, etc., be godly. Others may be cutting corners, and getting involved in dirty deals. Some may be desperate to ‘blow’, they desire to become famous, rich, and and successful at all cost. Don’t join them. Maintain your focus, Christ in you is your guarantee of a successful life.
Be led by the Spirit not by the impulses of the mind. Joseph was able to refuse the ungodly demand of His master’s wife because of His reverence for God. He said to her, “…how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God?” (Genesis 29). You are the righteousness of God, live according to your new nature in Christ, glorifying God in all that you do.
PRAYER: Thank You heavenly Father for your life in me. I live godly and righteously. My life overflows with the profits of godliness in Jesus’ name. Amen.
