How do you feel when a friend or family member talks to you only when they need something from you? Does it make you feel good or used?
Unfortunately a lot of believers relate with God with that same attitude. They only remember to talk to God when there’s a pressing need in their lives.
God wants you to communicate with Him on a regular basis. He is very much interested in every detail of your life. He is not just God or Lord, or King to you, He is your FATHER who loves you and has demonstrated His love for you in the most awesome way, through the death of His only begotten Son.
One of the ways by which you fellowship with the Father is through prayers. The Prayer template of Jesus in Matthew 6 shows us that, prayer is strictly a family affair; it is children communicating with their Father.
Jesus said, “After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven… Matthew 6:9-10
Much as the Father hears and answers every request that is made in consonance with His Will, you need to understand that prayer is not only a means via which you receive from God.
Prayer is primarily fellowship with God. It is an act of faith based on relationship with the the heavenly Father.
The Apostle John puts it this way: That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. 1 John 1:3.
Praying in tongues is one of the ways to resist the urge to turn every prayer session into ‘moments of asking’. For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.
1 Corinthians 14:2.
Worship is another great way to fellowship with the Father. John 4:23 says, “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.
Think about it, God longs for you to worship Him! Make worship a lifestyle. Spend quality time each day to eulogise God for who He is. The book of Psalms is filled with words of adoration which you can adopt as you daily worship the Father.
The prayer template of Jesus shows that prayers should begin with worship: “Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.” Matthew 6:9.
Another brilliant way to stay connected with God is through meditative studying of His Word. When you spend them searching the scriptures, your understanding of His perfect Will will be on the increase, and the grace to live by His Word will constantly be multiplied unto you.
2 Peter 1:2 says, “Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord.” Make the healthy decision to consistently fellowship with the Father and your life will be filled with all the blessings that come from His Presence.
PRAYER: Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for your everlasting love and for the privilege I have in Christ to fellowship with You. I chose to spend all of my days in communion with you, and your blessings are multiplied upon my life in the name of Jesus. Amen.
