Do not get drunk with wine, which will only ruin you; instead, be filled with the Spirit. Ephesians 5:18. GNB
There are many blessings that are attached to being filled withe the Spirit. Let me highlight a few of the reasons why you should always be filled with the Spirit: The voice of God becomes very audible to your inward man, your walk with the Lord blossoms continually, you are strengthened with might to accomplish any given task, you never lack counsel or direction as to what decisions to make concerning every aspect of your life, the plans of the Enemy against you are completely ruined through the power of the Holy Spirit, you are enabled to overcome every challenge, God uses you powerfully to impact other lives as he did with the apostles, your life practically goes in the direction of God’s perfect Will, the list is endless, you can add to it from the scriptures.
How can you be filled with the Spirit? Ephesians 5: 18-21 clearly answers that question. But first, you need to understand that the baptism of the Spirit is the responsibility of the Holy Spirit while being filled with the Spirit is the believer’s responsibility. The Holy Spirit already played His role by baptising you into the body of Christ when you confessed Jesus as the Lord of your life. That’s how you became a new creation in Christ. Its now up to you to stay filled with the Spirit and enjoy all the blessings that come with it.
Now that you are born again, God wants you to be filled with the Holy Spirit. The good news is that it is very possible for you to ALWAYS be filled with the Spirit. Here are some ways by which you can achieve that: (1). By SPEAKING to yourself in Psalm, hymns and Spiritual songs: You need to deliberately put God’s Word in your mouth to experience the fullness of the Spirit. The book of Psalms is filled with Words of praise and adoration by which you can eulogise God and be filled with His Spirit. Ephesians 5:19.
(2). By SINGING and making melody in your heart to the Lord: Learn to sing the right songs that enable your spirit to easily receive the fullness of the indwelling Spirit of Christ. It is important that the lyrics of the songs you worship God with are Word-compliant because the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of the Word, His power and anointing wells up in you when you sing spiritual songs.
(3). By GIVING thanks always for all things: the presence of the Holy Spirit becomes very real to you if you are in the habit of always giving thanks. The attitude of complaining, murmuring and ingratitude makes him passive in you. Learn to give thanks in every situation and you will always be filled with the fullness of the Spirit.
(4). By SUBMITTING to one another out of reverence for Christ, Psalm 133:1-3 will help you appreciate the relationship between submission and the fullness of the Spirit. Where there is submission there is unity and the Holy Spirit enjoys to operate in an atmosphere of peace and unity. Ephesian 4:3 says, Endeavouring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.’ Therefore, be submissive and peace-loving.
(5). By PRAYING in the Spirit often: Praying in the language of the Spirit strengthens your consciousness of the Spirit of God in you. The more you pray in tongues the more you overflow with the power and fullness of the Holy Spirit.
(6). By FASTING: After Jesus fasted for forty days, He returned in the fullness of the Spirit. When you fast your spirit becomes more sensitive to the Spirit of God.
(7). By STUDYING the Word of God meditatively: You fellowship with the Spirit when you spend time with the Word, and the Holy Spirit fills you with the glory of His Word and causes your life to glow with His presence.
Go ahead and practise the above principles and you will always be filled with the Spirit.
PRAYER: Dear Father I thank You for the privilege to be filled with Your Spirit, as I give myself to praying, singing and doing all I need to do, my life will be continually filled with Your Spirit, in Jesus’ name. Amen.
